We're Pregnant
I am beginning a new blog movement, at least new to me, all about our pregnancy. Yes it’s true… We’re pregnant!!!! I mean WE! My husband Jim and I have been trying to get pregnant for nearly two years now and over the past 6 months or so we have been working with a fertility clinic in Phoenix. We have both been so invested in this that it is a “we” to Jim and I now that we have achieved our first goal in this process.
We have our first “baby” pictures already, a picture of our 3 fertilized eggs in a petrie dish before the doctor implanted them into my uterus. I was on strict bed rest for the next 3 days following the procedure… not to mention the injection process the two weeks prior and the continued injections after. Which, if you don’t mind me saying, aren’t that bad. This coming from the girl who…. Hates…. Needles!!!
The first two weeks were the worst of it… I had to get the injections in my stomach. I practically passed out when we had to up the injections to 3 a night. I felt so bad for Jim, he has been giving me all my shots, it wasn’t that they hurt so much, they just sort of had a burning feeling when the liquid was going in. I’m just afraid of needles. I know it’s a bit irrational because when I get the injection in my hip or butt I don’t even flinch, because I don’t see them… it’s all very psychological.
The beauty of it is… it worked!!! After they implanted our eggs we had to wait about 2 and ½ weeks to find out. Some people we’re like, “Isn’t the wait killing you?”… it really didn’t seem that bad for us. We both had the realistic attitude, if it works, it works, if not then it doesn’t. I think that is why we were in such shock when we got the call.
We had an appointment to go and get my blood drawn on a Saturday morning, our in-vitro Medical Specialist, Kori, (loved her… she was so helpful in this whole process) advised us that they would know from this first draw but that we would have to come back on Monday morning for a second so that they could verify our levels to make sure everything was going as planned.
Monday at 1:45 that afternoon, we got our call and the nurse told us, “Well, you’re pregnant. You’re way pregnant!” I guess whatever levels they check seem to be fairly high, which could indicate that we might be having twins. We were just so speechless. My cute husband started to cry and then so did I.
It’s been almost two weeks since the call and we’ve had a third blood test confirming all is going as planned. We go back to the fertility clinic on the 16th for an ultrasound to verify every thing and see if we are having one or possibly two babies. Then we have our first official OB appointment on the 17th. It’s all very new for us… we are a bit late in the game but are so very excited to watch and share with you as my belly grows!
Bye, bye ass!!!
